It replaces pay, not your job
Paid family leave provides wage replacement while you are away. Job protection comes from separate statutory laws like FMLA and state leave equivalents. Most leaves qualify for both at the same time.

Requesting leave early prevents delays

Filing
Four steps, and we do most of them

Tell us the dates
Start a claim with your leave reason and the dates you expect to be away. For a birth or adoption you can usually file up to 30 days ahead.
- Step 2
Send what supports it
A medical certification for caregiving leave, or proof of birth or placement for bonding leave. We tell you exactly what your state needs.
- Step 3
We verify and decide
We check your wages and hours against your state’s eligibility test and issue a decision in writing, with the reason either way.
- Step 4
Payments begin
Approved claims are paid weekly for the period you were on leave, after any waiting period your state applies.

- For bonding leave: proof of birth, adoption, or foster placement
- For caregiving leave: a medical certification from the treating provider
- For military exigency: the relevant duty or deployment documentation
- Bank details if you want payment by direct deposit

Coming back to work
Tell us your return date as soon as you know it, even if it changes. If you come back early, unused weeks generally stay available for the rest of your benefit year.
If your leave is spread out rather than taken in one block, report the days you actually take. We draw them down against your entitlement so you always know what is left.
